At the Going Down of the Sun

This has been an interesting painting for me, as it is the result of a chance gift of some acrylic texture, that has formed the basis of this work. The pumice additive gave a feeling of earth and ground, Painting on this surface was complex and pointed to a simple form that could be used. It was during the Remembrance commemorations that the process became clear. The result was this studio painting that reflected that solemnity; a sun retreating behind the land.

Jon draws on locations that have played a part in his ‘artistic journey’, exploring space, light and colour, and it is this juxtaposition. He manipulates emerging abstraction to express the essence of a particular ‘place’.
