Jon Rowland – Night Shore.
This is one of a series of paintings done ‘en plein air’ on a Scottish headland as the sun was setting. Each day different weather. Each day a different kind of dusk. Each day a different response. After a blustery day, white horses on the sea, anoraks on the hills, this dusk was a break in the clouds, wind, and what the Scots call ‘dreich’, to reveal a stunning sunset.
Jon draws on locations that have played a part in his ‘artistic journey’, exploring space, light and colour, and it is this juxtaposition. He manipulates emerging abstraction to express the essence of a particular ‘place’.
