Those Soft Parts of Conversation – Pauline
Pauline Boty was a painter and co-founder of the 1960s British Pop-Art movement. Her paintings demonstrated “….a joy in self-assured femininity and female sexuality, as well as criticism of ‘the man’s world’ in which she lived.” I was a student at the AA when she died and saw a photo of her, the image of which stayed with me. She was a little known icon, only now starting to be appreciated. Hopefully my work helps start a celebration and re-appraisal of the fullness of her contribution. This painting reflects her pose in the photo.
Jon draws on locations that have played a part in his ‘artistic journey’, exploring space, light and colour, and it is this juxtaposition. He manipulates emerging abstraction to express the essence of a particular ‘place’.
